On the Feast of Theophany in Halifax

On Saturday 19th January 2019, the feast of Theophany was joyously celebrated. The Divine Liturgy of Saint John the Chrysostom was served by father Aleksandar at 10.00 am. It was a cold and muggy winter day, however the church was heated and warm, to the delight of the congregation.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the rite of the Greater consecration of water was joyously served by father Aleksandar. The attached photograph clearly shows the atmosphere present in church for the occasion of the feast of Theophany. The day commemorates the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ, by Saint John the prophet and forerunner.

 The greeting used today and until the leave taking of the feast is: God has revealed Himself ! - Indeed God has revealed Himself !

На Празник Богојављење у Халифаксу

У суботу 19. јануара 2019, празник Богојављења је радосно прослављен. Свету Литургију Светог Јована Златоустог чинодејствовао је отац Александар у 10.00 часова. Био је хладан и тмуран зимски дан, ипак је храм био загрејан и топао на одушевљење сабраних.

На крају Свете Литургије радосно је служен обред Великог Освећења воде од стране оца Александра. Приложена фотографија јасно показује присутну атмосферу у храму, приликом празника Богојављења. Дан прославља Крштење Господа нашег Исуса Христа од стране Светог Јована Пророка и Претече.

Поздрав са којим се данас поздрављамо и све то оданија празника је: Бог се Јави ! а отпоздрављамо: Заиста се Бог јави !

 

The Holy Mysteries of Baptism and Christmation

On Saturday, 12th January 2019, the young servant of God Georgios Petrakis received the Holy Mysteries of Baptism and Christmation. The delighted and joyous parents were presbyter Mihail and Izampela and the responsibility of godparenthood was accepted by Dr. Ioannis Falagis, a qualified dentist. During the Holy Mysteries, members of the Greek Orthodox,Three Hierarchs church choir in Leeds, beautified the church service with Greek- Byzantine chanting, which were celebrated by father Aleksandar Ilic.

In the afternoon, there was a reception for all invited guests. Greek traditional food was on the menue to tempt all taste buds ! After the celebratory meal there was Greek songs and also Greek dancing, which was led by presbyter Mihail with agility. Father Aleksandar adhering to Greek tradition, successfully smashed a white plate in the middle of the first joyous Greek dance.

Thanksgiving to our Lord and God, Jesus Christ for everything ! 

Свете Тајне Крштења и Миропомазања

У суботу 12. јануара 2019, млади служитељ Божији Георгиос Петракис примио је Свете Тајне Крштења и Миропомазања. Одушевљени и радосни родитељи били су презвитер Михаило и Изампела, а одговорност кумства прихватио је др. Иоанис Фалигис, дипломирани стомотолог. У току Светих Тајни, чланови хора Грчке Православне цркве, Светих Три Јерарха у Leeds, улепшали су богослужење са грчко-византијским појањем, које је чинодејствовао отац Александар Илић.

После подње, био је пријем званица. Грчка традиционална храна била је на јеловнику да искуша чула укуса ! Након свечаног ручка, било је грчке песме и игре, која је поведена од стране окретног презвитера Михаила. Отац Александар се придржао грчке традиције и успео је да разбије бели тањир у средини прве радосне Грчке игре.

Захвалност нашем Господу и Богу, Исусу Христу за све !

 

 

The Celebration of the Nativity of our Lord and God Jesus Christ

On Sunday 6th January 2019, at 11.00 am. on the Eve of the Nativity of our Lord and God Jesus Christ, father Aleksandar served Vespers with the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great. The Sunday was dedicated to the Holy Fathers of the Christian Orthodox Church, making it an occasion to celebrate Fathers Day.

In the early evening at 6.00 pm, Matins was served. The church floor was abundantly decorated with fresh straw, depicting the Manger of Bethlehem. At the end of the Matins, father Aleksandar read his Nativity Epistle in which he expressed the joy of the Nativity celebration. The Christmas Tree was blessed with consecrated water and it was carried in a joyous procession to the courtyard of the church where it was burned. The Christmas Tree symbolises the wood which the shepherds of Bethlehem burned in the Manger, with the permission of Venerable Joseph to warm the cave where the God Infant was born.

On Monday, 7th January 2019. the feast of the Nativity of our Lord and God Jesus Christ was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great. Throughout the church service a beautiful divine atmosphere was experienced. The Nativity Epistle of His Holiness Patriarch Iriney and the assembly of all Serbian Christian Orthodox Bishops was read by father Aleksandar. 

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill among men !" (Luke 2.14-15).
